Ockeghem: "Fors seulement" - All three voices and Minus 1 (MODERN edition)

Madrid  •

Here I present you the Minus One of "Fors Seulement" by Johannes Ockeghem (1410-1497) as well as the entire piece with a modern edition I made for the occasion. A facsimile Minus One of this piece already exists on my channel (https://youtu.be/roTrFvEyKhw), but can be hard to begin with. So this is an excellent first step to get to know this wonderful piece and play it with the other voices! Just like the other video, this video first plays the entire piece "Fors Seulement", but this time you can read along with the three voices. Then, for each voice there is a Minus One: the voice of the part you're reading has been left out, so you're directly playing with the other two voices. You can go directly to the chapter mark of your choice! Range of each voice: 1st voice - from c' to f'' 2nd voice - from a to d'' 3rd voice - from A to f The piece can be played along on recorder, viola da gamba, traverso, cornetto, viole da braccio (violin, viola, cello), sackbut, dulcian, and one can also sing (there is a version with text); and really anyone interested in this repertoire, join us on your instrument! Be it oboe, flute, clarinet, bassoon, harpsichord, piano, harp, psalterium, marimba... It is always good to learn where our music came from and how notation developed, in a more practical way! This was the instrumentation I used: 1. g-alto Ganassi recorder (a soprano recorder is possible too) 2. g-alto Ganassi recorder (an f-alto recorder is possible too) 3. Baroque bass recorder Yes, the Baroque bass recorder is an anachronism! The bass goes up to the high F. In fact, in order to play this piece on a renaissance recorder consort, we would have to transpose the piece. It would be possible to do so one tone lower, with all instruments in f. The piece is an instrumental version of the chanson "Fors seullement l’actente", which was the source of inspiration for many other works, such as his own Missa Fors Seulement, as well as works by Josquin des Prez, Pierre de La Rue, Matthaeus Pipelare, Johannes Ghiselin, Jacob Obrecht, Brumel and Alexander Agricola.
